Cialis is a trademark brand name manufactured by Lilly. You may inquire about generic Cialis, tadalafil, which is considerably less expensive. Note: SingleCare has both Cialis coupons and tadalafil coupons.

What is Cialis?

Cialis is a PDE5-inhibitor used to treat erectile dysfunction. As a vasodilator, it enhances blood flow by opening blood vessels and allowing blood to flow more freely to certain areas of the body—in this case, to the penis. Cialis helps men get and maintain an erection.

It may also be used to treat symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), which is the medical term for an enlarged prostate. Symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia include difficulty urinating or frequent and sometimes urgent urination. If you have an enlarged prostate, Cialis might be prescribed to you as it's thought to work by relaxing the muscles in the prostate and bladder.

What doses of Cialis are available?

Cialis is available as an oral tablet in strengths of 5 mg, 10 mg, and 20 mg. It should not be taken more than once daily by mouth unless your doctor advises otherwise. It can be taken with or without food.

If Cialis was prescribed to you to treat erectile dysfunction, your doctor may request that you take the medication one of two ways. First, your doctor may prescribe Cialis to be taken only as needed, at least 30 minutes prior to sexual activity. Remember that Cialis should not be taken more than once per day. The second dosage is to take Cialis regularly—once a day every day.

If you are taking Cialis to treat symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia, your doctor will likely recommend it to be taken regularly at or around the same time every day. Consult your doctor if you are already taking finasteride, which is another BPH medication.

What are the side effects of Cialis?

Some—but not all—side effects of Cialis include dizziness, headache, lightheadedness, fainting, muscle or chest pain, and nausea. Contact your doctor if these side effects persist or worsen.

Seek medical attention immediately if you have heart disease or heart problems and if you experience any of these side effects. Note: Sexual activity can put extra strain on your heart. Do not take Cialis if you take medication for heart disease that contains nitrates. This interaction could increase your risk for heart attack.

How long does Cialis last?

It takes at least 30 minutes for Cialis to work. If you take Cialis on an as-needed basis only, you may consider taking it up to two hours prior to sexual activity if possible. If you take Cialis every day, effects may last up to 36 hours. However, you should seek medical attention if you experience a painful or prolonged erection that lasts more than four hours.

What is the difference between Cialis and Viagra?

Cialis and Viagra are similar prescription drugs. They're both used to treat erectile dysfunction. They both belong to the drug class of vasodilators, meaning they dilate blood vessels to increase blood flow. Both drugs have a generic version available. The generic version of Cialis is tadalafil; the generic version of Viagra is sildenafil citrate.

In addition to erectile dysfunction, Cialis may be prescribed to treat an enlarged prostate; Viagra can also be used to treat pulmonary disorders, such as pulmonary hypertension, which is blood pressure condition that affects arteries in the lungs.

Perhaps most significantly, Cialis and Viagra differ in how long they're effective for. Cialis is effective for up to 36 hours whereas Viagra lasts for eight hours. There are several erectile dysfunction medications available, including Cialis, Viagra, and Levitra, but there is no over-the-counter alternative. Consult your physician to find the best ED medication for you.
